Neal,
Great story!!Deeply immersive story with great characters and uncommon magic mechanics that are absolutely fascinating。 I was barely able to put the book down and ended up finishing it in less then a day。
Clarence M Brown III,
A New Take On LitRPGI love gamelit stories but never read deck- build books until now。 I may have to start。 This story is well written with the beginnings of world building aspects and a protagonist who is not OP as is common in many other novels。 At least, not yet! This is a very good book and I eagerly await the next one。
Peter Parker,
GreatGood stuff。 Nice build up。 Good MC and plotting。 Excited for future installments。 Good portion of book 2 is already written。
David Tomlinson,
Excellent Original LitRPGGreat incorporation of deck building strategy game into a fantasy storyline。 Great building of side characters and just wonderful that the mc has a brain。 Where and When is book 2 damnit!!!?
Benjamin Latham,
One for my top 10Really good book with something a bit unique setting it above others。 Looking forward to the next book hope it doesn’t take too long to come out。
Brad,
amazingOne of the best books I’ve picked up in awhile。 The world is great and well thought out I’m not much for card based games but this is so different and the MC is someone I just have to move。 This is a must read。
Jace March,
great readGreat story。 I really enjoyed the journey and the magic system。 I will definitely be getting the next one。 Boom
John #Audible,
This is puuurty good to start out。 Look I normally hate pre-teen, teen type books because they are written like a CW mini series dumpster fire。But this one is pretty good, plus you have Luke (kick ass ) Daniels performing the voice work。 It is definitely coming of age。 The important characters seemed to be flushed out and maybe others folks will get there due in later books。 The thing I would like to see more in the next book explained is more world。 building and expand information on the blight This is puuurty good to start out。 Look I normally hate pre-teen, teen type books because they are written like a CW mini series dumpster fire。But this one is pretty good, plus you have Luke (kick ass ) Daniels performing the voice work。 It is definitely coming of age。 The important characters seemed to be flushed out and maybe others folks will get there due in later books。 The thing I would like to see more in the next book explained is more world。 building and expand information on the blight。 。。。more
Artrain,
I go by goodreads rating system, so three stars means I liked it, which for a new author is quite a high praise。 I might have even given it four stars had it just that little bit extra in the story department。 The writing is excellent, the world building is good, I just felt it needed a more focused goal。 The card system is very interesting, and here again I felt that it was an opportunity missed by simply giving the main character an overpowered card。 Having him build a deck of average cards th I go by goodreads rating system, so three stars means I liked it, which for a new author is quite a high praise。 I might have even given it four stars had it just that little bit extra in the story department。 The writing is excellent, the world building is good, I just felt it needed a more focused goal。 The card system is very interesting, and here again I felt that it was an opportunity missed by simply giving the main character an overpowered card。 Having him build a deck of average cards that perform much above average together would have been more enjoyable to read。 That said, I'm happy to see a good new author, so I hope he keeps writing。 。。。more

Could not put this book down。Must admit I was not expecting much when I picked this book up。 But this book grabbed me and would not let go。 Highly recommend。 When can I read book two。

So good。 Want more, MORE!
Ward,
This was surprisingly well done。 I generally have low expectations for LitRPG-style books, but this far surpassed my expectations。As seems to be the case with any LitRPG worth reading, you could remove the LitRPG mechanics and replace them with some other fantasy-based magical power and the book would be essentially the same。 It's almost like the only LitRPG books that I like are the ones that don't use tabletop games and RPG mechanics as a crutch。I really like the idea of getting magical powers This was surprisingly well done。 I generally have low expectations for LitRPG-style books, but this far surpassed my expectations。As seems to be the case with any LitRPG worth reading, you could remove the LitRPG mechanics and replace them with some other fantasy-based magical power and the book would be essentially the same。 It's almost like the only LitRPG books that I like are the ones that don't use tabletop games and RPG mechanics as a crutch。I really like the idea of getting magical powers through the cumulation of magical artifacts (in this case, trading cards)。 It was well implemented and not too predictable。 Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy, not just LitRPG fans。 。。。more

Rating 4。0 stars I was surprised how much I liked this book。 I didn't know what a deck building litrpg entailed。 While I like the idea of dungeons and dragons I don't like those litrpg stories。 Having a metaphysical dice roll to see if an action is going to happen just doesn't work for me。 I didn't know what to expect with a deck building litrpg。 Was it going to be like Pokemon? I never played but I was a little hesitant。 I finally broke down and got the book and I am glad I did。 This one had th Rating 4。0 stars I was surprised how much I liked this book。 I didn't know what a deck building litrpg entailed。 While I like the idea of dungeons and dragons I don't like those litrpg stories。 Having a metaphysical dice roll to see if an action is going to happen just doesn't work for me。 I didn't know what to expect with a deck building litrpg。 Was it going to be like Pokemon? I never played but I was a little hesitant。 I finally broke down and got the book and I am glad I did。 This one had the same feel as Mark of the Fool book。 Cards are what are used for magical powers in this world。 You can have only so many cards - each a different type and rarity that you can bring into your heart that give you abilities。 The MC is a boy of 12 working in the outlands。 There are monster like creatures in the world that seem to be the antithesis to life。 They use dragon soil to reclaim those dead/dying lands。 The MC is part of a village that has that job。 Turns out, all the adults in the village are on a death penalty。 Their sentence is suspended while they work on the land。 The boy is watching a carriage in secret trying to see magic when a dragon shows up and kills the caravan。 The boy is discovered and the dragon gives him what the guards were protecting。 A legendary card。 Nobody else in the village has even a common one。 Anyway, things happen and his father is able to sneak him out the village to protect him and give him a better life (view spoiler)[ He ends up in a caravan for a while until the scourge break and he gets rescued by a dragon and taken to the dragon hive。 His legendary card allows him to learn no combat skills incredibly fast。 He needs to work hard, build up skills as well as get some more cards to hide his legendary one。 This was a good book。 It was on the YA side of things with the MC being 12 years old for most of it and ended up when he was 16。 There were parts that were kind of slow。 There was also a point where I could figure out what Arthur's long term goals were。 In the short term I understand, learn skills and get more powerful。 Long term though。 Does he really want to be a dragon rider? Why? If it is to help people and fight the scourge why isn't he doing anything to help until now? He spends the whole book talking about how he doesn't want to be a thief and then he ends coming up with a heist for other cards。 What he did with them was sort of nobel but was that his plan the whole time or something that just worked out。 I still enjoyed the book but those are the main reasons it didn't get a higher rating。 I am looking forward to the next book。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Mia Zhu,
What a surprising way to start the new year! A deck-building litRPG with dragons??! Think Yu-Gi-Oh x Eragon。 I was reticent about giving this a go since I've had poor luck with litRPGS in the past。 I'm not a massive fan of stat screens and repetitive stat grinding。 I am also not a fan of dungeon books。 That is to say, I am picky with my litRPGs, and this one was perfect for me。 It has a wonderfully integrated "magic" system that is similar to traditional magic systems。 It is definitely a stat sc What a surprising way to start the new year! William Howe,
what a rideDRAGONS!!! For those with the desire…Well written, it flows well, and the structure of the magic doesn’t get in the way of an interesting story。MC is not a *good* person, but he’s not evil or strictly bad。 He uses his skills to advance himself, but it is not without cost。 I appreciate his looser morals as he is a teenager, pulling himself up from the dregs of society。Definitely looking forward to the next book。 There is a lot here to like。
Spencer,
Solid popcorn fantasy litrpg with a twist。 Really enjoyed the card system for magic。 Can’t wait for book two

Book oneWow! This is probably the best deck building book that I've run across。 Well written and edited。Everything flows smoothly and made sense。The characters are interesting and best of all it's being written on Royalroad。If the author hadn't printed book one I'd have missed this story。I'm highly impressed and give this a 10/10 even with the dragons。 Book oneWow! Roberto Flores,
Meh。This has a very good seeing with a lot of growth potential。 The card system is weak, this is something I find to be quite common。 It serves as a simple catchall to explain away any random ability or skill that the author wants to put in。 The class and ability scores feel empty and tacked on。 The characters are all pretty bad, not badly written, just bad people。 Everyone is focus driven without any moral compass。 Anything you do is excused because you have a "good" reason。 This is a book with Meh。This has a very good seeing with a lot of growth potential。 The card system is weak, this is something I find to be quite common。 It serves as a simple catchall to explain away any random ability or skill that the author wants to put in。 The class and ability scores feel empty and tacked on。 The characters are all pretty bad, not badly written, just bad people。 Everyone is focus driven without any moral compass。 Anything you do is excused because you have a "good" reason。 This is a book with no heroes, everyone is just a different type of villain。 。。。more
